Award-Winning Artist Creates Two 'Grand' Nurseries
Sandra “Sass” Lassley has welcomed not one but two precious bundles this year: grandson Ace Jeffry, born February 26, and granddaughter, Madeleine Josephine, born March 21. What better way for this talented, award-winning decorative artist to express her joy than by creating some breathtaking nurseries for her darling new grandchildren?
Vintage Circus Theme
Sass, who together with her husband Jeff operates Fe Fi Faux Studios Inc. in Omaha, Neb., created a vintage circus theme for the nursery of her grandson, who is known as A.J. for short. She based the theme on a vintage star that she came across while browsing at a Re-store outlet. She lit the star from behind with rope lighting on its own switch, hidden behind the curtain to create a nightlight. To complement the star nightlight, Sass designed a compatible light-up marquee and integrated the two pieces into a one-of-a-kind window topper.
Additional embellishments in A.J.’s nursery complete the look. The wall finish looks like metal, while the custom ceiling was accented with a crackled red crown. The ceiling is Anaglypta paper painted with metallic silver; the relief part of the paper was then highlighted with a darker gray glaze. The doors were painted black to add to the drama. The wall art complements the circus theme and is customized with A.J.’s name. It was created by renowned Bulgarian artist Ivo Koytchev.
