It almost sounds like the set-up for a joke: What do you get when you take 332 guests, an equal number of chairs and hundreds of jars of paint? In this case, though, the answer isn’t a punchline but a Guinness World Book record-setter!

It almost sounds like the set-up for a joke: What do you get when you take 332 guests, an equal number of chairs and hundreds of jars of paint? In this case, though, the answer isn’t a punchline but a Guinness World Book record-setter!

Faux-finisher Brooklyn, owner of Brookielynn's Bungalow in Denton, Texas, recently tried—and succeeded—in organizing the largest do-it-yourself furniture-refinishing workshop ever. To break the record, Brooklyn needed more than 250 students; but she soundly beat this number on Oct. 1 as people came from all over the United States to Celina, Texas, to take part.

For their efforts, students at the end of the workshop took home a beautifully painted and distressed chair, an 8-ounce container of Junk Gypsy™ paint, furniture refinishing skills and the satisfaction of knowing they were part of Guinness history. (The cost of the event was $35, $15 if students provided their own chairs.)

Brooklyn received help from supplier Junk Gypsy paint, the Celina Main Street Advisory Board, Whimsy Finds (the shopping destination where her business is located), friends and family. She also has received a lot of media attention ever since and has become something of a local celebrity.

Brookielynn's Bungalow, which just moved from Celina to Denton, offers faux-finishing and craft workshops to DIYers as well as a select inventory of related supplies. Learn more about Brooklyn's business at www.brookielynnsbungalow.com.
